Mirror Mirror
a group exhibition of self-portraits
to ring in the new year.
Opening: Saturday, January 7, 12-4pm
Hey Y’all, Youse and You Guys,
First off, Happy New Year! Finally, it’s time to wipe this god-forsaken slate clean! A fresh start. Out with the old, in with the new. Quick question, Did you make any New Year’s Resolutions? Well, we did. Why do we keep doing this when it’s a proven fact that there is a meager 9% success rate with all resolutions? Is it that we like to gamble? Do we honestly think we’ll beat the odds? Hard to say. But, after some serious self-reflection and collective soul-searching, we realize that what we’re all really after is that same, ineffable longing for a new and better version of ourselves. Sound familiar? So, we thought it might be fun to explore this idea.
On that note, we felt like the best way to kick-off the new year is to invite you all over for a delightful group exhibition of self-portraits, because, honestly, we just need to see all your shiny faces! We welcomed all types of artwork and skill level for this open call. The only stipulation was that submitted works had to be a self-portrait. And to that, we say “Ask and Ye Shall Receive!”
Come and witness the breadth and diversity of glorious mug shots displayed on our humble walls in the old fire station. We’ve got realistic and not-so-realistic paintings, mixed-media drawings, thrift store assemblages, black and white photos that would give Mapplethorpe a run for his NEA money, a PUNCH member revealing his inner-iguanodon and a six-year-old manifested in the form of a 3-dimensional stuffed pillow!
Please come say hi this January and so we can raise a glass and salute the New Year together in person! And be sure to bring your shiny faces, wouldja?
